Prof. Dr. Emre Erdoğan

PROJECT EXECUTIVE

He is a political scientist with research interests in political participation, foreign policy, public opinion, child and youth well-being, methodology and statistics. His research interests include youth in Türkiye, integration of Syrian refugees, marginalisation, polarisation and populism. He actively participates in research projects, acts as a referee and is the editor-in-chief of Istanbul Bilgi University Publishing House and editor of REFLEKTİF Journal of Social Sciences. He is involved in different COST Actions, H2020 and Erasmus projects.

Prof. Dr. Pınar Uyan Semerci

Researcher

She is a faculty member at Istanbul Bilgi University, Department of International Relations. Since 2007, she has been the director of Migration Studies Application and Research Centre and since 2017 she has been the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at the same university. Uyan-Semerci, whose academic fields of study are political philosophy, comparative politics, social policy and methodology in social sciences, has conducted many research projects, published articles and books on justice, rights, citizenship, human development, capability approach, poverty, migration, youth, collective identity formations, marginalisation, polarisation, child labour and child well-being.

Doç. Dr. Başak Akkan

Researcher

She is a faculty member at Istanbul Bilgi University, Department of International Relations. Previously, she taught at Boğaziçi University Social Policy Graduate Programme and worked at the Social Policy Forum. She holds a PhD in interdisciplinary social sciences from Utrecht University, an MA in European Social Policy from the London School of Economics, and a BA in Sociology from Boğaziçi University. Her research interests include theories of justice centred on intersectional inequalities, care regimes, comparative social policy and child well-being studies. She is involved in national and international research projects and has numerous publications in these fields.

Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Tuğçe Erçetin

Researcher

She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations at Istanbul Bilgi University. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Istanbul Bilgi University, an MA in Political Science from the University of Essex and an MA in International Relations from Istanbul Bilgi University. She has been involved in research projects on polarisation, migration, populism, marginalisation, civil society and volunteering, and information disorder. Her research interests include populism, identity, nationalism, marginalisation, political communication, political psychology. She is the associate editor of REFLECTIVE Journal of Social Sciences at Istanbul Bilgi University. She has published articles in journals such as Democratisation, Southeast European and Black Sea Studies, Turkish Studies, Philosophy & Social Criticism and national and international book chapters. She is involved in different TÜBİTAK, Erasmus and Horizon Europe projects.

Birnur Eyolcu Kafalı

PhD Scholar

After completing her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations at Marmara University in 2010, she worked in the field of marketing and communications in the private sector for a while. In 2020, she completed her master’s degree in Social Projects and NGO Management at Istanbul Bilgi University. She conducted her master’s thesis on gender equality and education. As of 2022, she continues her PhD education at Istanbul Bilgi University, Department of Political Science. Her research interests include gender, women’s rights, civil society, education, information irregularities and infodemic.

Pelin Küney Ocak

Master Scholar

She completed her undergraduate education at METU Department of International Relations in 2013. She has worked professionally and held managerial positions in the communication, resource development and management functions of private sector and non-governmental organisations working in the fields of environment, education, youth and employment for 10 years. She took part in social investment projects in organisations such as Koç University and Esas Holding. She has been continuing her education at Istanbul Bilgi University Social Projects and Civil Society Management Master’s Programme since 2021 and is currently conducting her thesis research on the experiences of women employees in civil society.

Gizem Külekçioğlu

Project Manager

She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Marmara University Department of Political Science and International Relations and Istanbul Bilgi University International Relations Programme respectively. Since 2007, she has been working at Istanbul Bilgi University Migration Studies Application and Research Centre (BİLGİ-GÖÇ). At the Centre, she contributes to the organisation of projects on migration and social inclusion, migration and education, rural and urban child labour, polarisation, as well as events on migration, art, literature, raising awareness and breaking prejudices about migration and migrants.
